It started this past Christmas. I’d been dabbling in learning to sew a few things and seeing the things my Mom had quilted. I wanted to give it a try. I stumbled through a couple small projects using some tutorials I found online. I wanted to see if I could conquer learning to quilt. I had been asking my Mom some questions. She would patiently respond. I’d wanted something to organize my threads in (I do like organization), so she sent me a gift of some containers for just that purpose…and a book.
Learning to Quilt: A Beginner’s Guide. 25 Lessons.
I started to read. Learned a lot in the introductory pages. I’d been doing some things all wrong. ALL WRONG. Then, somehow, it occurs to me that during the summer, I often have Wednesday evenings free. I could use those nights to go through a lesson. And, thus, the Summer of the Quilt came to be.
The book leads one through the creation of 20 blocks that are joined together with borders and such to form a big quilt. Each block (square) uses different techniques for creating designs within the quilt. This is right up my alley, I’m giving it a go.
